Back in 2007 Nissan first built and produced the GT-R, making it the successor to the extremely popular Skyline GT-R. The successor was powered by a 3.8-litre turbocharged engine that produced a staggering 473bhp and 588Nm of torque. After seven years of production and progressively upgrading year on year, Nissan decided that these kinds of figures just weren’t enough.
Introducing the GT-R Nismo, Nismo is the motorsports and performance division of Nissan Motor Company and since 1984 have been tinkering, tuning and engineering high powered engines for optimum performance, whether this is for track use only or high-performance models for sale to the general public.
Last year (2013) the Nismo GT-R clocked the fastest lap time of the Nürburgring Nordschleife. You can watch the video here:
The 2014 Nismo GT-R really is the summit of the family, its impeccable cornering abilities, eye-watering top speed and stunning super-car looks are the features that make this such a desirable vehicle to own. Like the previous model wasn’t capable enough, the Nismo division have pulled out all the stops to create an incredible 592bhp, 652Nm of torque and a 0-62 time of 2.6 seconds which keeps going right through to 200mph+.
It is clear to see every part of the GT-R Nismo, even the bolts that hold the wheels on has been built for one purpose and one purpose only, speed. More importantly the suspension has undergone tuning upgraded and now features custom-built Bilstein DampTronic shocks and a hollow rear anti-roll bar. Other Nismo upgrades see specially developed tyres unique to the GT-R, lightweight Carbon Fibre bodywork and rear wing which lowers the centre of gravity, adding 100kg of downforce at 300km/h. The upgraded bodywork portrays a vehicle with serious road presence, partly due to the added bonnet vents and race inspired 20inch alloy wheels. As a result of the upgrades the Nismo GT-R corners with precision and prowess that you don’t quite feel in the standard model.
The interior has seen some tasteful upgrade also, Alcantara wrapped steering wheel, red stitching and Nismo badges plastered everywhere, acting as a constant reminder to the performance behind the looks. Beefy racing bucket seats are also standard which use a clever electronic adjustment system to ensure your seating position is correct. They offer optimum support and comfort particularly when you want to throw the Nismo round corners.
